329 Unique Magic: The Gathering Baby Names

300+ Geeky MTG Baby Names

Magic: The Gathering baby names cover an amazing array of names ranging from normal to unique to fantastic.

Are you looking for a MTG baby name that can fly under the radar of someone who doesn’t play Magic, like Jace or Rowan? Something unique but easy to pronounce like Avram or Mariska? Or a name that’s totally wild like Lazav or Selesnya?

With over 300 names on this list, you’ll discover something that’s to your liking! The diverse Multiverse in Magic means there’s an extraordinary variety of names from many cultures, both real and imagined.

Names in blue are boys, pink are MTG girls names, and orange are either.

Top 21 Magic: The Gathering Baby Names

I’ve curated a handful of names and included more details on them here. Want more information on another MTG name? Leave a comment, and I’ll add to it!

  1. Aurelia is a guildmaster in Magic: the Gathering, and her name means golden or gilded. This is an especially nerdy name, since your baby would have the famous Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius as a namesake!
  2. Avacyn is an archangel in MTG. If you love the nickname Ava but want a longer name, look no further!
  3. Brinelin is a Zendikar Moon Kraken, her name means lake. This name is subtle enough that people will likely assume it has nothing to do with Magic, and is nothing more than a combination between Bryn and Lynn.
  4. Brion Stoutarm’s name is great if you’re looking for a subtle nod to MTG. This name is a variation of Brian, which means highest.
  5. Chandler is a rogue from MTG. Did you know Chandler could be a boy or girl’s name? It means candle maker.
  6. Eidren is an elf of the Gilt Leaf tribe. And this name is beautiful for both boys and girls, it sounds like a variation on Adrian or Adriane
  7. Faralyn: Love names ending in -lyn, but want alternatives to the mainstream Evelyn, Carolyn, Madeline? Planeswalker Faralyn is a great choice for inspiration! Her name is more unique than Brinelin, but not too wild!
  8. Farris: What do you think of naming your child after the warrior Farris of the Anvil and Hero of Oxid Ridge?
  9. Glacian the artificer designed the powerstones of Thran, and many of the empire’s other powerful artifacts.
  10. Isperia, the sphinx guildmaster, has a gorgeous name!
  11. Jace: Even if you name a child after one of the most famous planeswalkers, there’s plenty of other nerdy reasons to choose this name. First, there’s Jace Herondale from The Shadowhunters series. And Jace from The Mortal Instruments. Plus, Jace is short for Jason, including Jason and the Argonauts from Greek mythology. This name means healer. Jace has been a popular name in the United States in recent years
  12. Lilliana: Unless your friends are also into MTG, Lilliana sounds like a perfectly normal name! This name could be a variation of Elizabeth, meaning my god is an oath, or a form of Lily, referring to the flower.
  13. Mariska has the rare distinction of being a unique name that’s also easy to pronounce. It’s a nickname for Maria in Hungarian and Dutch.
  14. Nicol: Regardless of Nicol Bolas’s history, it’s an amazing name! In Scottish, this name is a form of Nicholas, and in Dutch, German, and Czech, it’s a form of Nicole, which mean victory of the people.
  15. Oriel. Nature names are extremely popular. But the name Oriole, as in the colorful bird, is quite unique! In Magic, Oriel is the leader of Clan Emerald of Storgard in the Ice Age of Dominaria.
  16. Rebbec: Also in the easy to pronounce category! Rebbec is the chief architect of Halcyon on Donimaria. This name is a variation of Rebecca, meaning join.
  17. Rhys is an elven hunter in the Gilt Leaf tribe. And there’s Rhys from Torchwood, Fire Emblem, Tales from the Borderlands. This Welsh name means enthusiasm.
  18. Rowan Kenrith, twin sister of Will Kenrith, is a planeswalker who specializes in electrical magic. And her father is the High King of Eldraine. This name can refer to the rowan tree or the Irish and Scottish words for red.
  19. Tallibeth: this Dominarian woman from Valley of Tamingazin has a gorgeous name. What do you think of the nickname Talli?
  20. Thalia comes from the Greek word meaning blossom. And in Magic, she’s the guardian of the Helvault in Thraben on Innistrad
  21. Tobias Andiron is the administrator of the military state of Sheoltun, and the figurehead of its freedom. Meaning: Yahweh is good.
