Borusa. Borusa is a former teacher of the Doctor. Interestingly, he is played by a different actor in each appearance. The meaning of this name is unknown. It could come from Boris, meaning short, wolf, or snow leopard. Or Borisa, a medieval Romanian name meaning to fight.

Gallifrey. The Doctor hails from the planet Gallifrey. This name could be related to Galafrid, an old Germanic name meaning to sing peace, or Galfrid, an Anglo-Saxon version of Geoffrey, meaning foreign peace.

Donna. Donna Noble, portrayed by British actress and comedian Catherine Tate, is a companion of the Tenth Doctor. Meaning: Italian for lady.

Erisa. Captain Erisa Magambo is a UNIT officer who works with Rose Tyler in Donna Noble’s parallel universe. Meaning: unknown. This name may come from the name Eris, who was the Greek goddess of discord. In Japanese, Eriza could mean picture or painting.

Jane. Sarah Jane Smith is an investigative journalist and companion of the Third and Fourth Doctors. Jane is a middle English form of John, meaning Yaweh is gracious.

Polly. Polly Wright, played by actress Anneke Wills, traveled with the First and Second Doctors. Interestingly, the name Polly comes from the name Molly, which is a variation of Mary, meaning beloved or love.

Rani. The Rani is a renegade Time Lady and scientist in Dr Who, played by actress Kate O’Mara. In Sanskrit, Rani means queen. In Hebrew, it means to sing.
