Huggies Little Movers Diaper Review

Huggies Little Movers Diaper Review

Hanna, mother of two, shared her Huggies Little Movers diaper review. Every child and every family is different, so we’re providing different perspectives for our readers.

As the mother of a rambunctious little boy who surprises me every day with his seemingly endless energy, finding a diaper that fits his level of activity became a top priority for me once my son began to crawl.

Many diaper lines claim to be designed for the busy baby but in my own experience, the majority of these fall short. They excel in absorbency and overall quality, but their fit and stretch often left my son with a droopy diaper butt in no time.

My introduction to Huggies Little Movers came at the recommendation of a seasoned mom friend. I was in a pinch and had run out of Kirkland diapers, so I sent a quick text asking for a brand recommendation. At this point, I’d really only used Kirkland diapers for both kids in the last 3 years, so I felt like such a newbie.

I was impressed with the accessibility of Huggies (thank you, Target drive-up!) and the competitive price. I’ll go into much more detail on our experience with the diaper quality, so keep reading.

While I am almost exclusively loyal to Kirkland diapers, I rely heavily on Huggies Little Movers when we travel as a family. It’s impossible to plan out how many diapers you’ll need while on vacation, and it stresses me out to try.

Luckily, Huggies are available pretty much anywhere diapers are sold, making one component of traveling with young kids just a bit less stressful.

Huggies Little Movers Diaper Review: Short Version

Huggies little movers diaper review

One of the most popular and loved global diaper brands on the market is Huggies. They’ve been trusted by families for decades, diapering babies in the preemie and newborn phase, wild and curious baby phase, and supporting toddlers (and parents) during the adventures of potty training.

Huggies is known for its quality materials, diaper softness, excellent fit, and consistent absorption across all of its diaper lines.

Huggies Little Movers boast a contoured shape, snug-fit, and stretchy waistband, making it a top contender for parents with busy babies. Convinced you want to try them? You can get Huggies Little Movers on Amazon here. Not sure if they’re for you? Keep reading!

Huggies Little Movers Diaper Review: Pros and Cons

The pros and cons of this Huggies Little Movers diaper review will help you make an informed decision on whether or not this diaper is the best fit for your busy baby.

Huggies Diaper Pros

Fit

They’re called Little Movers for a reason! As your baby begins to explore the world, it’s never been more important to have a diaper that fits right and doesn’t shift, droop, or fail to support their daily activities.

Designed for active babies, Little Movers has a contoured shape that comfortably hugs your baby’s waist and thighs for a gentle yet snug fit.

Stretch

Huggies’ stretch makes sizing up a breeze; I’m confident that as my son gains weight and grows taller, I have time to finish up a pack of these diapers thanks to the quality of stretch.

Some diapers offer stretch but sacrifice softness; you can have one or the other, but often not both.

Little Movers cater to busy, growing babies without overlooking their sensitive skin. You’ll find that your baby can stay in the same size for a bit longer thanks to the quality of stretch that supports their growing limbs.

Thoughtful Design

In terms of thoughtful design to help make parents’ lives easier, Huggies seems to check every box.

The double-grip tabs ensure the diaper stays in place no matter what kind of adventure your baby gets into.

There’s a wetness indicator stripe down the middle of the diaper that appears yellow when the diaper is dry and changes to blue when it is wet. This makes it easy to know when it’s time for a change, simply by keeping an eye on the color as your baby moves through the house.

There’s a handy size-up indicator on the front of the diaper where the tabs stick on. They look like two small buttons that rest on the front of the diaper’s waistband. When the diaper fits your baby properly, the tabs will stick to the white part of the diaper, past the buttons. When it’s time to buy a bigger size, they will stick to the buttons.

Avoid putting your baby’s diaper on backwards (yes, it happens!) with the helpful “Back” indicator printed on the backside of the diaper. While this is a minor feature, it’s still a useful one when you’re in a rush or half asleep.

Availability

One major perk to buying the Huggies brand is that they are available almost anywhere that diapers are sold.

While subscription-based services are great for some families, when it’s 2 AM and you’ve just used the last diaper, chances are good your next diaper shipment may not arrive in the next 2-3 hours when you need it.

Huggies are widely available in the USA and many other countries, so you’ll have peace of mind knowing that wherever you are in the world, you can find the diapers that you trust.

Affordability

For the quality of fit, design thoughtfulness, and stretch, Huggies Little Movers are great value for the price.

They run about 2 cents less per diaper than the Kirkland brand, and the quality and fit are very similar in my experience. Many reviewers say they tried Huggies because of the cost and stuck around for the value.

Clean(er) Ingredients

Huggies Little Movers are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, lotion-free, paraben-free, and made without elemental chlorine and natural rubber latex.

According to their website, the diapers do not contain phthalates and parabens.

While Huggies could be more transparent with their full ingredients list, we can see from what they’ve disclosed that they are taking steps to offer cleaner options for families, and that’s a start!

Huggies Diaper Cons

Absorbency

My son has experienced regular leaks with these diapers, especially overnight. However, when compared to other brands that advertise overnight absorbency, Huggies is not the worst you can buy.

I should’ve done more research on the overnight absorbency flaw because I bought a large box of these diapers and was only able to use them during the day.

If your baby wakes up with heavy, urine-filled diapers after a night of sleep, Huggies may not be your go-to (unless you don’t mind changing diapers in the middle of the night to prevent leaks).

Smell

Many reviewers say that once their baby pees in this diaper, the smell of urine quickly becomes overwhelming.

This is likely in relation to the absorbency flaw. If the urine isn’t being properly absorbed, it’s just sitting in the diaper and on your baby’s skin.

Ingredients Not Listed

We know these diapers are free of elemental chlorine, but they aren’t totally chlorine-free. Chlorine isn’t harmful to your baby’s skin, but it is dangerous to the environment.

Huggies also contain some plastic woven into the outer materials. This is common practice for many diaper brands, but if you are trying to find a more eco-friendly diaper, or protect your baby’s sensitive skin with clean ingredients, Huggies may not be it.

Sizing

Huggies Little Movers Diaper Size Chart

Little Movers are designed for older babies who are starting to move around, so they’re only available in sizes 3-7. If you love the Huggies brand but need a smaller size, try Huggies Little Snugglers for a similar price and quality.

Huggies Little Movers Diaper Review: Key Features

Here are the key features and benefits of this Huggies Little Movers diaper review.

The Fit

The Little Movers line of Huggies diapers was designed specifically to be the best-fitting diaper for the active baby.

Its contoured shape, stretchy elastic waistband, and dry touch liner are high-quality components that work together to make sure your baby feels comfortable and allow them to be active and curious all day long.

When unpacking these diapers for the first time, they look and feel puffier than I expected a slim-fitting diaper to feel. However, once I put one on my son, it really hugged his body close and there was no drooping at any point throughout the day.

For reference, my son is 18 months old and falls right in the middle of the pack for both height and weight. Size 4 of these diapers fit him like a dream – he’s right in the middle of the weight recommendation and I know he has a few more months of growing before I need to size up.

I like that these diapers allow for some wiggle room within each size, depending on your baby’s body type. The leg holes offer stretch for a taller, slimmer baby, while the waistband has impressive elasticity to fit chubby, wider babies.

The Material and Feel

Huggies little movers diaper review

Nothing ruins my opinion of a diaper brand faster than pulling one out of a box and feeling sandpaper. If it’s rough just to the touch, how is it going to feel on my baby’s sensitive skin, especially when it’s wet? No, thank you!

Fortunately, Huggies has never presented this problem in my experience. All the diapers I’ve purchased are consistently soft and comfortable. Little Movers exceeded my expectations in terms of softness.

Oftentimes, a diaper feels soft but the elastic waistband feels rough and dry. Huggies diapers are soft all the way through, from the outer liner to the leg cuffs, waistband, inner layers, and double-grip tabs.

Absorbency

Huggies diapers have a fast-absorbing liner and they claim to have extra absorbency for overnights, but many reviewers feel that the absorbency left much to be desired.

These diapers do contain a dry liner that wicks away moisture so it doesn’t sit on your baby’s skin and cause irritation. However, it seems like the fuller these diapers get, the less effective the liner becomes.

I’ve had to change my son’s diaper after an hour because the inside of his pants was wet from leaks. Even when there weren’t leaks, I noticed a lot more moisture sitting on his skin after 1-2 hours of wear.

The inner liner may work to keep moisture off your baby’s bottom, but once the diaper gets slightly full, absorption goes out the window.

One trick worth trying (particularly if you are loyal to Huggies and want to stick with this brand) is to buy a bigger size if your baby experiences frequent leaks, especially with overnight diapers.

Sizing up means the diaper will have more room for absorption, so that could be enough to solve the leak issue.

You do run the risk of more leaks through the leg holes when you size up, in case the diapers are loose around the baby’s thighs, allowing liquid to leak out.

If you love this brand, it’s certainly worth trying!

Leg Cuffs

The leg cuffs act as one more barrier for leak prevention. They hug the upper thighs and hold anything that hasn’t been absorbed properly.

The leg cuffs on Huggies seem to be useful; when fluffed out, my son did experience fewer leaks on his clothing when I remembered to do this extra step.

Waistband

The waistband of these Huggies diapers is what first sold me. I was on a 5–hour flight to Hawaii with my two young children, and my son needed a diaper change badly.

Experiencing turbulence on a flight to Hawaii is common, and we were asked to remain in our seats. Naturally, this is the moment my son decided to have a massive blowout, paralyzing my husband and me with fear at what might come out of his diaper as he rolled around on the seat between us.

Once I was able to get to the bathroom to change him, I was relieved to find the pocketed waistband had trapped the gigantic mess and contained it in one easy-to-clean area.

As a parent, it’s a rite of passage to experience the infamous up-the-back blowout. Once you’ve seen it and lived through it, you’ll do anything in your power to prevent it from happening twice.

Huggies Little Movers diaper waistbands prevent explosions, eliminate the mess, and make for easier clean-up.

Pictured above is where the Huggies diaper rests on my 18 month old son’s waist. They are secure and a higher waist than other brands, which I love for many reasons.

The back of the waistband rests even higher than the front, trapping in any potential messes your baby may make.

Diaper Tabs

The double grip strips on these diapers are one of their main selling points and for good reason. For the active baby whose parents are constantly hiking up their diaper, refastening the tabs to maintain its fit and positioning, Little Movers are a game-changer.

The tabs provide a “secure, flexible fit” that moves with your baby, so the diaper is comfortable throughout a busy day of activities, sleep, and baby-related chaos.

Huggies Little Movers Diaper Review: The Verdict

If your baby is at the phase of their young lives where they are constantly on the go, exploring everything in sight without ever slowing down (only to sleep!), Huggies Little Movers are definitely worth trying.

You’ll have peace of mind knowing that no matter how wiggly and wild your baby may be, their diaper will never sag, shift, or displace the contents within it.

Absorbency may not be the best in the business, but if you’re changing diapers frequently enough, it shouldn’t be too big of an issue.

For busy parents or families with multiple children, knowing your baby’s diaper is secure and reliable is just one less thing to worry about.

The price is just right – they’re affordable without skimping on quality or the features that parents rely on for less drama, easier changes, and dry, happy babies.

  1. I was wondering if you’ve done a review on Pull-ups Training pants, or overnights. I’m trying to figure out if this brand is good for my son who’s 5 at the time of this. He’s potty trained in the day but not at night, so if you’ve already made a review where can I find it?
My son is 20-30 pounds, and he’s quite active from time to time.

    1. Good question Michelle! I have used Huggies Pull-ups and had good success with them. Unfortunately I haven’t written that post quite yet. I definitely recommend them, they can absorb quite a bit of liquid overnight and stay on pretty well. Huggies Pullups come in two sizes 2T/3T (16-34 pounds) and 3T/4T (32-42 pounds). Sounds like the larger size might work well for you.
