Honest Diaper Review | A Mom’s Opinion

Honest Diaper Review

Ann P, mother of two toddlers, wrote this Honest diaper review to give her perspective on these premium eco-friendly diapers. We’ve interviewed lots of moms to get real input on all the diaper brands out there!

As a parent, choosing a quality diaper for your little one can be daunting. There are so many options! Each one seems to offer different features and be sold at different prices. So how do you choose which one is best for your baby?

As a mom to two toddlers who are both in diapers, I set out to review diapers from The Honest Company. I had never tried them before, but I had heard good things and I liked how they’re good for the environment. I’m also a fan of Jessica Alba, who happens to be the founder of The Honest Company. When she couldn’t find one brand to trust for her kids’ needs, she decided to create it. The Honest Company is now a hugely successful wellness brand that creates safe, simple, effective, trusted products for babies and kids.

I had a lot of fun trying diapers from The Honest Company, and I’m excited to reveal my findings — the pros, the cons and more. Keep reading my Honest diaper review to learn all about what I discovered.

Honest Diaper Package

When Jessica Alba founded The Honest Company in 2011, she knew that everything she created had to be eco-friendly inside and out. When it comes to packaging, Honest uses compostable tree-free paper and recyclable aluminum, tin and glass. All Honest diapers and other products are mindfully made. This means that their in-house labs, toxicologists and partners work with the Honest standard to deliver safe, effective, trustworthy products. When Jessica Alba gives her approval for Honest diapers, she’s promising that her diapers are safe for the environment and safe for your baby, and that these diapers will keep your baby dry and comfortable.

What are Honest diapers?

Honest diapers are stylish diapers with an Honest level of comfort for babies. The Honest Company offers daytime diapers in 45 different prints, overnight diapers in two different prints and training pants in six different prints. They offer each of these options in boxes, bundles and kits.

Key features of Honest diapers

There are a few features of each diaper brand that parents find important. Here are the key features of Honest diapers:

Wetness indicators

Honest Diaper Wetness Indicator

Honest diapers offer wetness indicators, which were extremely helpful for me. It may seem obvious when your baby is wet, but sometimes it can be harder to tell than you imagine. Having a wetness indicator made me a fan of these diapers right off the bat. The wetness indicator is a small, discreet line down the middle of the outside of the diaper. When the baby’s wet, the wetness indicator line changes to a different color.

Diaper tabs

The tabs on the diaper were great! They were very easy to adjust and also very adhesive. In some diapers, my kids can maneuver the tabs to come off by themselves, but they were not able to do that in the Honest diapers.

The feel of the inside and outside of the diaper

Inside Of Honest Diaper

One of the first things I noticed about Honest diapers was how sturdy they feel on the outside when you pick them up. They feel a lot tougher than other diapers I’ve tried, which I took as a good thing. The inside of the Honest diapers, however, is soft and seems comfortable. You can tell by feeling it that it’s absorbent.

The diaper fit

Honest Diaper Fit

I tried Honest diapers on both my two-year-old son and my three-year-old daughter. They are both the same size, weighing in around 27 pounds. They are both thin and pretty small for their ages. One thing I love about the Honest diapers is that you can buy a pack based on how much your baby weighs. It’s clearly labeled on the front, so I bought the one that said it’s for babies who weigh 22 to 37 pounds. The Honest diapers fit both of my kids perfectly. They were snug but not too snug.

Diaper slimness

The Honest diapers are comparable to most other diaper brands when it comes to slimness or bulkiness. They may look bulkier at first glance because the outside of the diapers are very sturdy and feel a little rougher, but they are actually just as slim as other comparable diaper brands.

Leg cuffs

The Honest diapers fit both of my toddlers’ legs pretty well. They were snug but not too tight. I didn’t experience any leaks during the day, but my son’s diaper did leak overnight. To be fair, he does pee way more than the average two-year-old! But the pee did come out of the leg cuffs a bit on his diaper overnight.

Waistband

Back Of Honest Diaper

The waistband on The Honest Company diapers is high and elastic, which is perfect for toddlers. Both of my toddlers pooped in Honest diapers, but the diaper held in the mess very well. There were no “blowouts up the back” (if you have kids, you know what I mean!), and no poop leakage. Because of the high, elastic waistband, Honest diapers seemed to hold in the messes better than other diapers I’ve tried.

Absorbency

When I looked at the inside of the Honest diapers, I could tell that they were super absorbent. The netting that lines the middle of each diaper is sturdy and thick. Throughout the day, I’d give their absorbency an A+. But, like I said above, my son’s diaper did leak overnight due to the high volume of pee. Even after my kids peed in them, though, the diapers still felt dry to the touch on the outside.

Pros and cons of Honest diapers

As with most things, there are pros and cons of Honest diapers. In this Honest diaper review, I’ll explain my top five pros and my top three cons.

Pros:

They are backed by a well-known celebrity.

Jessica Alba is a very popular actress and also very family-oriented. As a mom herself, she is well aware of what babies and toddlers need to stay comfortable, happy and healthy. And, as a public figure, she can’t put her name on just anything. I always like when companies are backed by big names because it makes them more reputable for me.

The designs are so cute!

The Honest Company offers daytime diapers in 45 different prints, overnight diapers in two different prints and training pants in six different prints. All of the designs are absolutely adorable. From oranges to bunnies to anchors to much more, you won’t find these unique designs anywhere else. I also appreciate that the look of Honest diapers is a bit more sophisticated than all of the characters that seem to be on so many other diapers.

They are high-waisted and durable.

In the past, I’ve tried diapers that don’t have high waistbands, and those never seem to work out for my active toddlers. The high waistbands on Honest diapers make them much more durable and much less likely to fall off during active play sessions.

They’re eco-friendly.

When The Honest Company was founded in 2011, they made a commitment to stay away from harmful chemicals in their products. In 2021, The Honest Company announced a new sustainable packaging initiative, which means that all of its cartons are now recyclable and made using 100% tree-free paper made from upcycled sugarcane byproduct. As a mom who wants to keep the Earth a safe, healthy place for my kids for years to come, this is important to me.

They didn’t cause blowouts.

I have tried other diapers in the past that seemed to leak every time my kids pooped. But in Honest diapers, both of my kids pooped and there were no blowouts. This says a lot about the absorbency and dependability of Honest diapers.

You can buy them almost anywhere!

Cons:

They leaked overnight.

When my daughter wore Honest diapers overnight, there were no issues with leakage. However, when my son wore them overnight, they did leak out the bottom and the top, which got him all wet. (When I picked him up out of his crib, he yelled, “Wet!” Haha.) This only happened once, but once is enough to reconsider using a diaper brand.

There are no “back” and “front” indicators.

I always love when diapers say “back” and “front” on them. It may seem obvious which side is the back and which is the front, but when you’re changing a diaper in the middle of the night on hardly any sleep, it can be difficult. Honest diapers didn’t say “back” and “front” on them, so this goes down as another con on my list.

They’re expensive.

Compared to other similar diaper brands, Honest diapers are expensive. Even if it’s only by a few cents per package, this adds up over time, as kids are in diapers for years. There’s a lot that Honest diapers brought to the table that other diapers did not, but I’m not sure if it’s enough to justify the high price.

The final verdict– Honest Diaper Review

Overall, I was impressed with Honest diapers in my Honest diaper review. I can tell that a lot of research and love went into making them. They have a lot of great features that many other diaper brands lack. If you have a really active toddler, I recommend trying Honest diapers. They’re super sturdy and seem to withstand all the chaos that toddlers get into. As far as the value for the money, this is up to each parent. Honest diapers are more expensive than most other brands, but they also offer more features (and more designs) than most other brands. At the very least, I recommend trying Honest diapers for your little one. Chances are you’ll be pretty impressed with them, and then you can decide if they’re worth forking over a little extra cash.
